How the Cold War Was Won

February 07, 2018

At the Stella Hotel, we take great pride in Texas history and try whenever possible to inform our guests about opportunities to learn more about the rich and compelling story of our great state. This month we’d like to let you know about a special Presidents Day event that will provide a fascinating window not just into Texas history, but into American and world history more broadly. On Tuesday, February 20, renowned historian Jeffrey Engel will be discussing his latest book, When the World Seemed New: George H.W. Bush and the End of the Cold War, from 6 to 9 P.M. at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. Dr. Engel, a former professor at Texas A&M University and founding director of the Center for Presidential History at SMU, will offer penetrating insight into the remarkable period when the seemingly intractable stalemate of the Cold War dissolved, and demonstrate how the lessons of that era can help us rise to the geopolitical challenges of our 21st century world. The event is free, but seating is limited, so guests are advised to contact the library ahead of time to make a reservation.

Address: 1000 George Bush Dr W, College Station, TX 77845
